because i can be
“keep galloping my little antelope
but keep your eyes and ears open
and don’t go in circles”
yet i follow the rotundas
round and round
desire, looping
like a broken record
recreating the same recipe
for lust and disgust
with different ingredients
never expecting a different outcome
because i know
i will always want
what i can’t have
so i settle
for a familiar hell over an unfamiliar heaven
making more memories of strangers
drinking from my cups
or dog-earing my pages
wondering if anyone
will ever read between the lines
