Morning Prayer

All my needs are frenzied
I wake and sprint to the truck
At labors end, the beer goes down
Faster than it can be poured
I sleep in bursts, very little or not at all
The time of prayer sweeps in like a flash flood
Eating only when necessary
And savoring it not
Sustenance for the skyward flight of spirit
Day in, day out
I am led or dragged
Toward the great wide open communion
