LET ME TRY AGAIN

Let me try again!
Can you, Trade? What if I trade—
All the mistakes we made?
Two bodies: withered and flayed,
Dancing in shade
I’m tormented in the flame.
I pray too—Flaming June, paging the moon
a woman rising from the tomb.
Oh, oh, oh—
Let me try again!
I won’t die again, so, God—
Let me try again!
The blind man:
Hides his face, from suffering and shame,
He’s tormented all the same. Pariah;
“Answer the phone!” the Cleric intones,
the vultures are waiting to pick your bones,
the leper’s—sins, shown—Sappho sings alone:
Do not move stones.
Let me try again!
I sleep in the—
Corn, in the grain, you’re mourning the rain; and—
What does the serpent have to gain?
She tries to: bleach the stain, the apple, the flood. In vain!
You called me by your name…
(I lied too) ease the pain, fuse sacred and profane,
The eunuch sings the refrain, begging God too.
Let me try again!
Don’t die for my sins again—would you die for my sins again?
Let me try again! Let me try again!
Can you, Trade? What if I trade—
All the mistakes we made?
Two bodies: withered and flayed,
Dancing in shade
I’m tormented in the flame.
I pray too—Flaming June, paging the moon
