The boy calls it his Mazda Protégé 2000.
He buys a pretty skirt for it on eBay.
You know, an aftermarket body kit.
Girlfriend’s dad’s got this garage…

Her dad prefers the classics,
but dammit, he thinks, a boy
who likes cars. Even imports.
Shared interest. Keeps his daughter safer.

Drilled. Sprayed. Cherry red.
Same can as his adored family of Chevrolets.
Careful over speedbumps, son.
That low skirt. Won’t let a finger under.
