American Water (Newark)

I love when a waitress calls me baby, and the taste of American water, and the smell of the burning floor mat when my dad misses the open car window with the last of his cigarette. And maybe I should bleach my hair or buzz it down to the skull. But I saw the back of an old lady’s shirt this morning and it told me not to panic, then I ran ten miles straight down to a sunken ship and unlaced my cement boots. I love it when my eyes start to droop and when the suck of a straw makes me wince. There is potential in my pocket and I grab it with my hand just to make sure it’s still there. Tighten my fist to feel my pulse pump. And maybe it will punch a hole in the future so I can step right through, clean to the other side.
